Using Your Voice

You can also ask your Echo, “Alexa, what’s on my shopping list?” and she’ll read out everything that you have on the list currently.

Through the Alexa App

If you’d rather not mess with third-party apps for controlling your Echo from afar, you can still add anything to your shopping list by using the Alexa app on your phone.

Simply just open the app and start by tapping on the menu button in the top-left corner of the screen.

From there, select “Shopping & To-Do Lists”.

Tap inside of the text box at the top next to the plus icon.

Type in an item and hit the plus icon to add it to your shopping list.

After that, go back to the home page and hover over “Lists” in the upper-right corner of the window.

Click on “Alexa Shopping List”.

Click inside of the text box at the top where it says “Add an Item”.

Type in the item and then click on “Add to Shopping List” off the right. The item will be added to your shopping list and will also appear in the Alexa app, as well as on your Echo when you ask Alexa what’s on your shopping list.

Bonus: Automate Tasks Using Your Shopping List

For example, we’ve written about how you can send your Alexa shopping list to your email once you’re ready to hit the store, so by asking Alexa what’s on your shopping list, this will trigger an action on IFTTT and send the list to your email address.

This is just an example out of many, so be sure to check out IFTTT and play around with the different actions that you can do.
