As the founder of a publication, I can attest to the fact that it is not an easy field to thrive in. Take it from the variety of Bay Area publications who’ve laid off team members, foregone print, or have entirely fell off the face of the planet. This industry in the Bay Area climate is unforgiving. We can’t blame them nor shame them, SF Bay Area isn’t always kind to independent journalism.

But how has Bob Cut been able to keep float in this field? Well, non-surprisingly, we keep you (the reader) involved in all aspects of what we do. Our core tenant “Community is our lifeblood,” iterates that our community of readers, followers, and fans have better helped our publication pivot, try new things, and expand. Of course, we’re not perfect. Not by a long shot—but that’s the beauty of it, right? We have so much to give and so much to try that we’re not even close to calling it quits quite yet.

What’s Coming Up

In the new year, we’ve been working on a load of new changes. Some we can discuss, others not yet. We can tell you that you should all be excited for what’s to come.

We also want to get you more involved in what we’re doing; it’s about making sure our community is glued into our corner. How we’re going to do this is just that, by asking you.

How can we keep this publication going?

It’s a big question on everyone’s lips. Rightfully so, running a fully digital and print company is a challenge when print isn’t in the demand anymore. To say you’re a “magazine” associates that you also have a print version. Those that do digital strictly with no physical presence have diluted the essence of holding a paper creation in your hand. Print isn’t dead, however, it’s just not the source of the written word like it once was.

You may have noticed your favorite magazines, publications, sources for what’s going on have enacted all sorts of paywalls, pay-to-play, or multi-tier subscription models to get premium content. It’s not to take your money—it’s so that writers, editors, and execs can get paid. Big corps are figuring out how to stay alive in this industry. Someday, Bob Cut may have to think about different methods in order to stay afloat but at this current juncture, we’re small yet mighty. Onward and upward.

2019

This year holds a lot of shifts for us, in a good way, we promise. Next month, we’re going to be informing you what’s to come. We’ve been building new sectors of our site and print and will be launching them slowly over the next couple of months. In preparation of issue 8 (can you BELIEVE?), we’re cutting, improving, and cushioning some new editorial advances and making sure we’re delivering you content that makes our heart sing. More on this very soon.

But until then gang, we’ll see you all around the Bay.
