Unfortunately, there is no single-word answer to this question as the two have many differences; however, the upside to this is you get to choose whether you want to have the comfort of semi-permanence of lash extensions or the many different styles of false eyelashes; having one less step in your makeup routine or that feeling of freedom you get when you finally take off your falsies at the end of the day. And so, the list goes on…

Main Differences between Lash Extensions and False Eyelashes

THE FIRST AND MOST important thing deciding your choice of the two is whether you like to add some extra lashes to your existing ones on a daily basis or not. If your answer is yes, then lash extensions might become your favorite pampering product for yourself quite soon. But if your answer is no, then there are some other things that you should consider. One of them being the time you spend on your eyelashes on a daily basis. Whether it is mascara or false eyelashes or just an eyelash curler that you use regularly, if you think that it is taking too much time and you’d just rather have those dreamy eyelashes that don’t need touching, then you could give eyelash extensions a go. But then again, you might like different styles of falsies that match your makeup look or just in general, your mood. In which case, false eyelashes will probably be your best friends for life.

Not Always One or the Other

HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT mean that eyelash extensions and false eyelashes are mutually exclusive. In fact, they can complement each other quite well. With the evolution of lash extensions, there are now several types of extensions to help you achieve the look you want. You can opt for the heavy volumizing extensions to give you a glam look everyday without trying or the natural looking ones that won’t even give away the fact that they are not the lashes that you were born with or you can even choose something in between. And if you do end up going for the ones that look natural on your beautiful canvas but are suddenly feeling glam, then you can still use false eyelashes on top of them whenever you want.

Some Other Things to Consider

BUT BEFORE YOU DECIDE to go get yourself some lash extensions, there are some cons to it that you should consider. As the extensions are semi-permanent, they will start falling off of your eyes after sometime. After which you will need to get them refilled. When they start falling off depends on their life expectancy which can be between two to eight weeks and how you wear them throughout. As in whether you sleep on your face or tug at your lashes constantly. But that isn’t even the main concern, rather the problem is they won’t come off all at once. There will be just pieces falling, leaving gaps in between the remaining lashes which can get quite irritating especially if you got the heavy volumizing ones.

The other issue that bars many from getting the lash extensions of their dreams is the price. Whereas, you can get some false eyelash sets for even a dollar on some sites; the cheapest lash extensions may only start from $50 dollars (that too is very rare) and the average price-point starts from $120-$150 and the lifetime of those cheap ones might disappoint you. As for the refill, you can get them done for less than $100; but you will have to get lucky to find a place close enough that will do them well enough for you.

Summarization of the Pros and Cons of Lash Extensions and False Eyelashes

Lash extensions-

Pros- Semi-permanent. Won’t have to worry about touch-ups for at least 2/3 weeks.  Takes time off of your makeup routine. Opens up your eyes and makes you look less tired.

Cons-Needs to be refilled. Very expensive.

False eyelashes-

Pros-

Comes in unique styles. Can be taken off whenever you want. Affordable. Cons-Takes time to put on. Can be used for 20 times at most (synthetic ones will only last up to 5 times).

And that is pretty much all you need to know about lash extensions and fake eyelashes before you start using them on your own. As you have your own trial and errors with them, you may prefer one over the other or appreciate both with all their good and bad. But one thing is for certain, when it comes to enhancing your beauty; neither of them will fail at that.
